Sargachi Ramakrishna Mission School
In its long journey of over hundred years, the small primary school established by Swami Akhandananda in 1900 has turned into Sargachi Ramakrishna Mission High School (H.S.) which along with the three units of Primary School is recognised worldwide as the first school of Ramakrishna Mission. Surrounded by ineffable greenery of the Ashrama, the environment of the school is unique in catering to the mental growth of the children.
The primary target of the school is not only to shine academically, but also, to ensure all-round development of the students. Partly residential this school runs at present from class five to class twelve. In spite of many students belonging to first generation learners, the school's result is satisfactory enough every year. Due attention is given to sharpen their sporting skill and to make them interested in cultural and science related activities. Their success every year in these fields is a matter of glory to us. Ramakrishna Mission always aims at nurturing perfection in human beings.

Founded in 1900, the Sargachi Ramakrishna Mission School stands as one of the premier educational institutions in the district, distinguished by its commitment to academic excellence in both the Science and Arts streams. The school's consistent performance under the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and the Council of Higher Secondary Education is a testament to its rigorous standards. Annually, over 95% of its students secure a First Division pass, with a significant number achieving Star Marks, solidifying its reputation as a beacon of learning in the region.
The evolution of the educational facilities at Sargachi Ashrama is deeply rooted in the vision of Swami Akhandananda, who sought to empower the rural poor through a blend of formal and vocational instruction. This journey began with the establishment of a Lower Primary school in 1900, specifically designed to serve the children of local impoverished farmers. Driven by enthusiastic local participation, the institution saw rapid early growth; it received regular District Board aid by 1901 and was upgraded to an Upper Primary school in 1904, eventually reaching Middle English status by 1906.
Despite these early successes, the primary education system faced periods of fluctuation due to limited funds and space, at one point reverting to a Lower Primary level. However, the mission’s resilience led to the school being re-elevated to Upper Primary status in 1930 and promoted back to a Middle English school in 1942. By 1956, the institution transitioned into a Junior Basic school. To further expand its reach, two additional Junior Basic schools were established in 1959 and 1962 to serve the surrounding villages, supported by a dedicated primary school building constructed in 1957.
The development of the Higher Secondary wing followed a parallel path of expansion and modernization. After receiving official government approval in 1944, the momentum of post-independence India helped the institution achieve High School status in 1956. By 1959, it transformed into a Higher Secondary school, notably offering specialized streams in Agriculture, Science, and Literature.
Following the state-wide abolition of the 11th-grade system in 1978, the school transitioned into its current 12th-grade structure. This growth was supported by expansion of school infrastructure between 1958 and 1963, which saw the completion of the main Higher Secondary building, two student hostels, and dedicated housing for the teaching staff.
Admissions
For Admission to Class Five:The student must take an entrance examination based on the West Bengal Government's approved curriculum for the previous class, which will include Bengali (30 marks), English (30 marks), Mathematics (40 marks) and Ramakrishna Mission-related topics (05 marks) (for a total of 105 marks).
The entrance examination will last 2 hours 20 minutes.
For Admission to Class VI to IX: The student must take an entrance examination based on the West Bengal Government's approved curriculum for the previous class, which will include Bengali, English, Mathematics and Ramakrishna Mission-related topics.
